About this site

Blog created and "about" page written 8/20/24.
For a long time I've wanted to create a resource for common questions and discussions that I can direct people to. One that was devoid of "fluff" pieces meant purely to drive traffic from web searches to the site for SEO. One that is succint, yet comprehensive, honest, clean and beautiful (thanks to the non-profit Ghost!), and one that demonstrates my expertise in the field. All of these posts are written personally by myself, Brooks Lawson, without the assistance of AI.
This blog is intended to support my real estate business, and as such, has no ads, no bloat, no affiliate links or any other "fluff" you may be accustomed to when reading articles online.
This is a free blog self-hosted on a mini PC in my bedroom, and published using the open-source Ghost software.
How to follow me:
Ghost is really intended to be followed via email, possibly with paid subscriptions. However, for technical reasons, I cannot provide that service, and I don't really like that method anyway. I don't really like email at all, and I especially don't like to receive every communication possible jammed into my inbox to the extent that everything just gets lost in an abyss. This blog is funded by my real estate business so I am not looking for your subscription money.
My top recommendation to follow is via ActivityPub (AKA "the fediverse"). Explaining what this is or how to use it is a post in and of itself, so I've linked to some good stuff below, if you're interested.
The most recognizable ActivityPub platform is called Mastodon. You can follow me from your preferred ActivityPub platform at the address @BrooksLawson@Mastodon.Social. In the future, this account will post directly into ActivityPub, and at some time in the future, you should be able to follow me on Threads with their ActivityPub integration, so I'll keep you posted on that, but for now you'll have to just follow me on Mastodon, where I will post new blogs.

The next-best thing is to follow via RSS, using your preferred RSS reader. You can follow this blog via RSS at https://blog.brookslawson.com/blog/rss/

ActivityPub and RSS are very similar (in fact, you can even follow my ActivityPub account via RSS!), with the exception that RSS is unidirectional, meaning I can communicate with you, but you can't communicate with me. AP has a lot more functionality, like the ability to like, reply and share, as well as all the other typical social media features.
In the future I will write a blog post that goes into more detail on ActivityPub and RSS.
Of course, there are also the conventional methods you may already be familiar with; posts will be shared on Facebook and Instagram, and you can always bookmark this page and check it periodically.
